Safeguarding at Endeavour
At Endeavour Academy, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, but the following people have specific responsibilities in relation to safeguarding:
- Mrs Carol Rhodes (Principal) – Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Ms Suzanne Kennedy (Vice Principal) – Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Ms Elizabeth Hill (SENDCo) - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Mrs Jaice McDonald (Attendance/Learning Mentor) - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
If you have a concern about a child or young person, it is vital that you act without delay. You can:
- Contact school in person or by telephone (0161 368 3366) and ask to speak to a member of the safeguarding team.
- Contact Tameside Children’s Social services on 0161 342 4101 (or 0161 342 4222 out of working hours or at weekends).
- Report concerns anonymously via NSPCC on 0808 800 5000
- Report concerns to Police via 111. If you believe a child to be at immediate risk of harm, call 999.
Endeavour Academy recognises its moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of its children. We will be alert to signs of abuse and neglect and we will follow our procedures and policies to ensure that our children receive effective support and protection.
We keep children safe by:
- Having an up to date Safeguarding policy.
- Checking the suitability of all our staff that work with children through stringent checking procedures.
- Having an open-door policy where concerns can be shared in confidence.
- Ensuring all our teaching and non-teaching staff have up to date child protection and safeguarding training.
- Sharing information with appropriate agencies if we have concerns.
- Having four identified members of staff who have responsibility for safeguarding (Mrs Rhodes, Ms Kennedy, Ms Hill, Mrs McDonald).
- Having a safeguarding focus on our school newsletter for parents
- Promoting good attendance and punctuality
Whenever staff have concerns about a child, they follow the procedures detailed in our safeguarding policy, which may involve the support of external professionals. The law places a duty on headteachers and school staff to report any obvious signs or suspected instances of abuse—including physical injury, neglect, emotional harm, or sexual abuse.
National guidance requires all schools and academies to work on the basis that “it could happen here,” meaning that any grounds for concern must be investigated. Although this may occasionally cause frustration when concerns are later found to be unfounded, we trust that parents and carers appreciate that staff will always act in what they believe to be the best interests of the child.

Since January 2019, Endeavour Academy has implemented a new project run jointly between schools and Greater Manchester Police. This project is called Operation Encompass. It aims to support children who are affected by domestic violence by ensuring that their school is informed. This allows the school to support the children. If you have any other questions about this project, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
